Find Dead Links in Your Bookmarks
Test every saved URL, flag 404s, timeouts and parked domains, then archive or delete the broken ones — free.
A bookmark collection built over years quietly rots: sites shut down, articles move, domains get parked by squatters. You only find out when you actually need the link.
Bookmark Commander's dead link checker requests each saved URL from your own browser, classifies the result — OK, redirected, 404, timeout, parked — and queues the broken ones for review so you can delete them in bulk or keep them with a warning label.
How it works
- 1Install the Bookmark Commander extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- 2Open the Cleanup center and start a dead-link scan (you can limit it to a folder).
- 3Watch results stream in: live, redirected, broken, or unreachable.
- 4Bulk-select broken entries and remove them — or fix redirected ones to their new URL.
Frequently asked questions
Does checking links send my bookmarks to your server?
No. Requests go straight from your browser to each bookmarked site — Bookmark Commander never sees your list unless you create a cloud backup.
Will it get my IP blocked for making lots of requests?
The checker rate-limits itself and requests only headers where possible, which looks like normal browsing. You can also scan folder by folder.
What about links behind a login?
Pages that need authentication are marked as 'unreachable, may need login' rather than dead, so you won't accidentally delete them.
Is the dead link checker free?
Yes — it's part of the free local cleanup toolkit, along with the duplicate remover and empty-folder sweep.
